Bright Space Opens for Northamptonshire Refuge
The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children celebrated the opening of a new Bright Space at Eve’s domestic violence refuge in Northamptonshire on August 18th. The Bright Space, which was designed by the children living at the refuge, has transformed the garden into an enriching and fun environment for play and relaxation. It includes new surfacing, a new sheltered seating area, a wooden climbing frame and slide, planters, flowers and plants, outdoor kitchen, water wall and lots of new toys and equipment.
To celebrate the occasion, children, staff, refuge residents and volunteers were invited to a party in the garden. Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Gareth Eales, alongside Eve CEO Christine Morgan cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the Bright Space. “This garden is a special place,” said Morgan. “It offers the children a place to be children and for residents to enjoy the peace and quiet or simply watch the children play.”
Emily Harris, Foundation Development Manager at Bright Horizons, said she was delighted to open the new Bright Space, “We wanted to make sure the garden reflected everything that Eve and the children asked for, and to create a special place for the children to enjoy.” said Harris.
The project was funded by a Tesco Groundworks Bags of Help grant, a grant from the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, funds raised by a sponsored walk at Wellingborough Pre-Preparatory School, and donations from Community Playthings, Consortium and Wyevale Garden Centre.
