100 Children Books Donated To Domestic Abuse Charity In Northampton

May 10, 2023

10 May 2023: Colleagues at Bright Horizons’ Northampton office recently donated almost 100 new children’s books to eve, a domestic abuse charity helping victims in Northampton. The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children invited people to donate their favourite children’s book during a meeting to highlight the impact of its Bright Space at eve’s refuge in the town.

The Bright Horizons Foundation has 88 Bright Spaces across the UK, two of which are located in Northampton. Bright Spaces are play environments for children and young people who have been impacted by sexual abuse, domestic abuse, violence, and homelessness. They provide children with the opportunity to play, learn, build positive relationships, and heal from trauma in a place of safety.

Christine Morgan, CEO from the eve charity said: “We are proud to have a partnership with the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and have been able to work with them to set up a Bright Space at our refuge. Our refuge offers victims of domestic abuse shelter and comfort. We are so delighted to have so many children’s books donated to us by the colleagues from Bright Horizons. These resources will really help to make a difference to young children who enter a refuge as we aim to make it a calm and welcoming environment for everyone.”

Emily Harris from The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children said: “We deeply value our partnership with the eve charity. Their refuge is so important for supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse. We hope that the books will bring comfort to the children and families supported by them.”

The Foundation also announced plans for a number of sponsored walks which will be held on May 20th. Bright Horizons colleagues will take part in these events, which will be held in London, Manchester, and Northampton.

The sponsored walks are to raise money and awareness for the Foundation and to help towards opening two further Bright Spaces in domestic abuse refuges. Each new Bright Space costs approximately £6,000 to open. The Foundation is proud to continue its work with the many different partners that it works with to provide valuable resources to support disadvantaged children and families at over 88 Bright Spaces across the UK.
