St Elizabeth Hospice Receives Refurbishment to Bright Space to Support Young People

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children has recently refurbished their Bright Space at St Elizabeth Hospice in Suffolk to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children and families who are visiting loved ones.

The Bright Space opened in June 2019, and was made possible through the generous support of children and nursery practitioners at Bright Horizons Quayside Day Nursery and Preschool who collectively raised over £6,000 throughout the years towards the project and other hospice fundraising events. Their dedication and commitment have played a vital role in transforming the space into a versatile area suitable for all ages.

The newly refurbished Bright Space has undergone a complete re-decoration of the family room to include new furniture and soft furnishings that are suitable to young people aged 0 – 18 years old and their families to create a homely, calming and inviting feel, where families and loved ones can relax, talk, play games, watch films together, and create memories. The Bright Space is also for the staff at the hospice, continuing to support the amazing and tireless work they do.

Amy, a Deputy Manager from Bright Horizons Quayside Day Nursery and Preschool who led the set-up of the Bright Space said:

“St Elizabeth Hospice has always been close to our hearts with many staff members and families here at Quayside being supported and impacted by the work they do. In 2001, my mum was receiving end of life care, they supported not only her through this time but us as a whole family and it’s something we will always be grateful for. We hope this space brings even just a little comfort to patients, families, loved ones and the hospice team. We look forward to continuing to work with them to develop the space as the needs of its users and the hospice changes.

“The Nursery will be getting involved in the ‘Wild in Art’ trail, organised by the hospice, it’s a huge family event with a whole trail of artwork to follow that our children look forward to each time it comes around and it’s a great way for us all to support the hospice further. We can’t wait for the next one to be announced in April!”

Helen Finlinson, Head of Inclusion and Development at St Elizabeth Hospice said: “Thank you so much to the Bright Horizons team for their fantastic work in refurbishing our Bright Spaces room, for families, at the hospice. We are so pleased with how warm and friendly the room looks and we know the families, who use it, will enjoy the new look as well.”

The Foundation is focused on improving the lives of vulnerable children and families experiencing crisis and disadvantage. Its Bright Spaces are enriching play environments for children impacted by domestic violence, abuse, homelessness, parental imprisonment, and ill health, and are designed to help children heal from trauma through play.

In 2024 the Bright Horizons Foundation will open its 100th Bright Space in the UK to support vulnerable children. To celebrate this milestone, our Foundation is set to launch its 100 Your Way campaign, with a goal of raising £100,000. Whether people walk 100 miles, do 100 laps of an outdoor space, do 100 press ups, perform 100 acts of kindness, or sell 100 cakes, 100 Your Way is a year-long, 100-themed fundraiser, in which individuals, teams, workplaces and communities commit to fundraise towards this £100K target. Please visit our website for more details on the upcoming 100 Your Way campaign.
